Whilst my initial plan was to just record a mix inspired from many a Ghost Box listening session, I wanted to expand slightly on those Hauntalogical journeys . I wanted to include areas of my youth, TV programs and songs I was bought up with both from parents and grandparents record collections and of that heard on Radio 4 and Radio 2 in that decade.
It doesn’t need a documentary or an in depth explanation, well not in my mind anyway, but that does make me wonder what a millennial would think of this, surely their Hauntalogical experiences are going to be different to mine?
It would be easy to go down the Halloween route on the date of recording this mix. However, just to touch on an ongoing childhood trauma…….having a birthday the day before the 5th of November……always mean’t that I was due an expensive firework for my birthday.
Having finished the cheap Standard couple of boxes………….
……….there was always a humongous pyramid shaped firework for the finale…….being about 7 years old I can confirm that this firework was actually the size of the Great Pyramid in Egypt and it was up to my Grandad to light it, whilst I stood at the back of the garden looking on in awe………
Except it never lit, EVER………3 years in a row……no..not the same bloody one you fool….yes, we did wait, but not 12 months to relight it……..so I have this aversion to fireworks, money literally going up in flames……anyway, I digress……. sit back and enjoy the mix…….
I’ve been watching episodes of Out Of Town with Jack Hargreaves (Hare Theives), an excellent way to check back on the past of the past of the past and cheer yourself up whilst being swathed in melancholia………….add a visit to Lewes to add to that History and apurchase of The Budos Band’s Long In The Tooth excellent album and there you have it.
Were any of the Tales Unexpected…I always thought they were quite predictable and it was only worth watching for the opening credits and theme tune……….
